Inline Hockey Goes 1-1 This Week

Vison Ha ’27, Lucien Kurtzhall ’24, and Chris Thompson ’24 help get the Dons Inline Hockey season started.

On Monday night the Dons played an “interesting” game against powerhouse and defending champions Del Norte High School. Interesting in that they did not have a goaltender to dress – so they played the entire game with a fifth skater. While the Dons seemed to anticipate a goal fest due to the mostly unmanned net – Coach Sciabarra cautioned them that these games are basically a game-long penalty kill situation, as the fifth skater can fall back to defend against long shots but quickly joins the play as a fifth attacker when the puck changes hands. This turned out to be exactly what happened, but the Dons did squeak by with a 9-8 win. This will prove to be a very tough matchup moving forward when they are at full strength.

Last night the Dons fell to a tough Scripps Ranch squad 11-8. One player for Scripps scored 8 of their goals and that proved to be too much for the Dons to overcome. That being said, Coach anticipates a better matchup in the next contest now that they are aware of this skater’s prowess.

Next week the Dons play Poway on Monday at 8 PM and then finish out the pre-break schedule with Westview on Wednesday at 6 PM. They will then resume play in January on Monday, January 8.
