Brookline (MA) Boys and Cathedral Catholic (CA) Girls Win Record-Setting Year 10 of HOKA Postal Nationals
More than 1,000 teams from 46 states competed from August 22-October 31 in the nationwide program
(EUGENE, OR) November 6, 2023 – RunnerSpace and HOKA ONE ONE®, a division of Deckers Brands (NYSE: DECK), are excited to announce the Brookline XC Club (MA) boys and the Cathedral Catholic XC Club (CA) girls as the national champions of the 2023 HOKA Postal Nationals program.
From August 22 to October 31, more than 1,000 teams from across the United States ran, allowing them to see where they stacked up in their state and nationally by submitting two mile times run on the track. The 1,100 participating teams in 2023 smashed the old record of 843 competing programs set in 2021, while teams from 46 states (a record) and Washington D.C. were represented in the results in the tenth year of the annual program.
This year’s boys competition came down to the final day, Halloween, with Brookline (MA) recording a 47:32.10 (9:30 avg) time to claim their winning US#1 rank. Brookline finished less than a second ahead of Dana Hills (CA) in overall time, as the California team ran 47:32.80 (9:31 avg) to claim second. Brookline’s winning mark ranks as the ninth fastest in program history, while the Dana Hills performance ranks tenth fastest.
“I was very excited and proud of the team’s race on Halloween,” said Brookline head coach Michael Glennon. “There was a great camaraderie between the two teams (Brookline and Boston Latin) competing as we tried to push each other to good performances. It was a perfect compliment to our current training as we prepare for the championship season.”
Behind the winning two teams, a fierce battle for third transpired, with Downers Grove North (IL), Wayzata (MN), and Conroe The Woodlands (TX) all finishing with a 9:36 average, each recording a total time less than half a second apart.
Similar to how the boys race played out, Cathedral Catholic (CA) won the girls competition in the last week of the competition. Running in a Local Postal Event in San Diego, Cathedral Catholic improved upon their runner-up performance in 2022 to win this year, finishing with a 55:37.40 (11:07 avg) time. Cathedral Catholic’s time ranks as the third best in program history.
“To win the HOKA Postal Nationals Championship is beyond rewarding,” said Dan Geiger, head coach of Cathedral Catholic. ” It goes to show that all the hard work is paying dividends at the right time in the season. We returned a good number of girls from last year’s team so we knew we were going to be strong, but an 11:07 average exceeded expectations.”
Runner-up Conroe The Woodlands (TX) ran the fifth best performance in HOKA Postal Nationals history, claiming second with a time of 55:52.20 (11:10 avg). 2022 winner Campolindo (CA) placed third in 2023 in 56:08.80 (11:14 avg), while La Jolla (CA) and Fort Wayne Concordia (IN) earned fourth and fifth with their 56:20.30 (11:16 avg) and 56:26.50 (11:17 avg) performances.
