Cathedral Catholic girls volleyball delivered a strong performance at the Hawai‘i Island Labor Day Classic in Hilo, Hawai‘i, September 3-5, finishing 8-1 and advancing to the Gold Championship semifinal, where they tied for 3rd place.

The Dons opened the tournament with three straight wins in Pool B on Thursday, defeating Hilo, Beaumont and SCTA. Cathedral continued its run on Friday in the Blue B round, earning victories over Village Christian, The Bishop School and Moanalua.

On Saturday, the Dons advanced to the Gold Championship semifinal by defeating Dana Hills and Crean Lutheran. Cathedral then faced Bishop’s for the third time this season and the Knights earned a two-set victory, ending the Dons’ tournament run. Cathedral had defeated Bishop’s twice earlier in the season, including a home non-league match before the Hawaii trip and a two-set win in crossover play. The semifinal marked the third meeting between the teams this season.

Baylee Wilson led the Dons throughout the tournament, recording 107 kills, 43 digs, and nine aces across nine matches.

The Dons return from Hawai‘i with an 8-1 tournament record, valuable experience against high-level competition, and continued momentum heading into the rest of the season, bringing their overall record to 9-1.
