Cathedral Catholic is the team leader by two strokes after the first round of play, which was held last week at Steele Canyon Golf Club. Torrey Pines and Classical Academy are in the hunt. Torrey Pines has won eight straight San Diego team titles and 13 of the last 14. Michael Riebe of Cathedral Catholic shot a 6-under par 65 and in the first round and is the individual leader, holding a three-shot lead over Evan Liu of Torrey Pines. Jay Leng Jr. of Torrey Pines and Reed Arnaldo of La Costa Canyon both shot 69s in the first round; and Kenyon Kahler of Carlsbad is in fifth place after shooting 71.

Up next: The top two teams and the next 12 individual qualifiers advance to the SoCal Regionals, which will be held May 22 at Los Serranos Golf Club’s North Course in Chino Hills.
