The Cathedral Catholic swim and dive team delivered an impressive showing at last week’s City Conference Championships, with the boys placing second overall and the girls finishing third in a highly competitive field.

The meet was highlighted by a record-breaking performance by the boys’ 200 freestyle relay team of Max Davies, Trenton van Dillen, Jack Davis, and Eamon Bruhn. The group set a new meet record with a time of 1:26.54, showcasing depth and speed. Davies also made history individually, breaking the meet record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.97 and adding a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle.

On the diving side, Addie and Liam represented the Dons with strong performances, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

One of the most memorable moments of the meet came in the girls’ 50 freestyle, where Janie Markowicz and Patsy Hellmann finished side-by-side, tying for sixth place with identical times of 25.02.

The girls’ team saw several standout performances across the board. Vivian Perez-Vazquez earned third in the 100 freestyle (53.46), while Amaya Dresevic captured first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.57. Markowicz also added a fourth in the 100 backstroke (59.45). Aubree Magnaghi contributed in multiple events, placing ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:24.28) and ninth in the butterfly. In the 100 butterfly, Cathedral Catholic showed its depth, with Demi Attia placing fifth and Oleisa Chua taking seventh. Francesca McNeil rounded out the girls’ highlights with an 11th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

On the boys’ side, Colin McPhail led the way in the 100 butterfly with a sixth-place finish (54.27), while Reid Emoto-Garay made a significant three-second drop in the same event (58.57). In the breaststroke, Trenton van Dillen broke the one-minute mark with a 59.72 to place fourth, followed closely by Jack Davis in fifth (1:00.75). Distance events proved another strength, as Cortez Chavez dropped nine seconds in the 500 freestyle to place fifth. Ki Baron also delivered a key performance, breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100 backstroke (57.94) to finish ninth.

The Dons’ depth and improvement were evident throughout the meet, as multiple athletes achieved personal bests and contributed to the team’s overall success.

With the City Conference meet complete, Cathedral Catholic now turns its attention to the CIF Championships. A large group of swimmers and relay teams has qualified on both the boys’ and girls’ sides, positioning the Dons for another strong showing as the postseason continues.
