Dons Dominate Western League Championship with Record Low Score
The Cathedral Catholic boys’ golf team delivered another statement performance this week, capturing the Western League City Conference Championship in dominant fashion and continuing what has already been a remarkable season.
Entering the stroke play tournament with a 14-5 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play, the Dons left no doubt about who sits atop the leaderboard. Cathedral set a new championship record of 357, finishing an impressive 43 strokes ahead of the field and adding yet another milestone to the program’s legacy.
Leading the way was sophomore Yunze Wang ‘28, who shot a spectacular round of 68 (-4) to claim the individual league title. His performance set the tone early and gave the Dons immediate momentum.
Close behind, Frank Zhang ‘27 secured second place with a steady 70 (-2), while Andrew Dupuy ‘28 finished third with a 71 (-1). Oliver Mayson ‘27 rounded out the top contributors with a strong 73 (+1).
The Dons’ depth continued to shine as Grant Po ‘26 (74), Wyatt Seltzer ‘27 (75), and Ethan Chotiner ‘26 (76) all finished among the top finishers, underscoring the team’s balance and consistency from top to bottom.
With a league championship secured and records continuing to fall, Cathedral Catholic solidifies its standing as the top-ranked team in San Diego. If this performance is any indication, the Dons are just getting started. The boys advance directly into match play, with Frank Zhang ‘27, Andrew Dupuy ‘28, Oliver Mayson ‘27, and Ethan Chotiner ‘26 all qualifying. Yunze Wang ’28 qualified but opted out.
