The Cathedral Catholic girls volleyball team made a statement this weekend, capturing the 2026 Southern California Volleyball Invitational championship with an impressive 8-0 record over two days of competition. The Dons powered through a challenging field, defeating local rival Torrey Pines in the semifinals before sweeping West Ranch in the championship match.

The Dons opened tournament play Friday, October 9, with straight-set victories over Menlo School, Pleasant Valley and Lake Stevens before closing the day with a hard-fought three-set match against Faith Lutheran. The Dons responded Saturday with renewed momentum, sweeping Otay Ranch in the quarterfinals to set up a semifinal matchup with Torrey Pines.

In one of the tournament’s most anticipated matchups, the Dons dominated the Falcons, winning 25-20, 25-20 in straight sets. The Dons’ composure and balanced team play helped secure the win and send the Dons to the championship match.

The Dons carried that momentum into the final against West Ranch, closing out the tournament with another straight-set win to claim the championship and finish 8-0.

Outside hitter Baylee Wilson was named tournament MVP for her outstanding performance throughout the weekend. Teammates Sierra Aswad, Olivia Greenwood, and Jojo Wilson joined her on the Platinum Division All-Tournament Team, highlighting the Dons’ collective effort and depth.

The championship marks a significant accomplishment for a young Cathedral Catholic squad that has continued to compete among Southern California’s top programs. The Dons’ ability to execute their game plan, maintain their composure under pressure and deliver in key moments was on full display throughout the tournament.

Beyond the championship, the weekend also carried a meaningful message. Host school Westview dedicated its fundraising and awareness efforts to Hodgkin’s lymphoma in support of assistant coach and Cathedral Catholic alumna Taimani Toilolo, who is facing a recurrence of the disease. Cathedral head coach Juliana Conn, who coached Toilolo during her high school career, expressed the program’s support and shared that the Dons are keeping her in their prayers.

With the SoCal Invitational title secured, Cathedral Catholic continues to build momentum as the season progresses. The Dons will look to carry their championship confidence into their next matchup against Torrey Pines. Congratulations to our Dons on an outstanding tournament and a well-earned championship!
