No. 4 Dons beat No. 3 Highlanders in key early season matchup

Reigning Division 1-AA state champion Cathedral Catholic was coming off the worst loss in the program’s storied 64-year history, a 63-7 thrashing by Chandler (Ariz.). The week before, the Dons were drubbed by Corona Centennial 42-7.

Cathedral head coach Sean Doyle pointed out the quality of the competition. Chandler is ranked eighth in the nation, Centennial 15^th.

“Chandler might be the best high school team I’ve ever seen,” said Doyle, now in his 27^th season coaching Cathedral.

Of his own team, Doyle said, “I feel good about our kids.”
