Dons Dominate Western League Finals with 11 Event Championships and Two School Records


The Cathedral Catholic Track & Field team delivered a memorable performance at the Western League Finals on Friday night, especially with a historic display by the girls’ team. They achieved one of their most outstanding results ever, winning 11 out of 17 events and medaling in every event! The night also saw two school records broken, multiple individual league titles, and two significant postseason awards.

Two School Records Fall

The night began with a thrilling performance by Liesel Sellerberg in the 1600 meters. Sellerberg surged to the league title and broke Cathedral Catholic’s school record, a mark that had stood since the early 1980s, with a time of 4:53.45. To close out the meet, Grace Keefe won the 3200 meters with a time of 10:41.92, shattering another long-standing school record, breaking the previous standard that had stood since 1997.

  • 4×100 Relay – Paige Summa, Anna Wilson, Larisa Olivas, and Kaellyn Peart, 48.55
  • 4×400 Relay – Liesel Sellerberg, Kristine Bickler, Natalie McCormack, and Anna Wilson, 3:59.57

Major Western League Honors

Anna Wilson capped off her outstanding evening with four individual track titles and was named the Western League Track Athlete of the Year. Boys Post Strong Performances

The Cathedral Catholic boys also had an excellent meet, with numerous athletes recording personal-best marks and qualifying for next week’s CIF Division II Championships. The highlight of the evening came from CJ Ronco, who ran a huge personal best to win the Western League championship in the 110-meter hurdles.

Next Stop: CIF Division II Championships

A large contingent of Cathedral Catholic athletes has qualified for the CIF Division II Championship Meet, which will take place next Saturday at University City High School. The Dons will be represented across a wide range of individual and relay events, showcasing the depth and strength of both programs as they continue their postseason journey.
