Fresh off leading Cathedral Catholic to the CIF San Diego Section Team Championship, Jacoby Laws added another impressive accomplishment to his outstanding season by earning All-CIF honors at the CIF Individual Championships.

Seeded No. 5 in the singles tournament, Laws advanced to the quarterfinals, matching his seed and earning an All-CIF Team patch. It marked the best CIF Individual performance of his Cathedral Catholic career.

Laws opened the tournament with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Kai Baraniak of Canyon Hills, then defeated Santiago Resendez of Mater Dei 6-3, 6-0 in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, he battled Aditya Khanna of Canyon Crest Academy in a thrilling three-set match before falling 6-1, 6-7(4), 10-5. Khanna has since advanced to the championship match.

Throughout the season, Laws has served as an exceptional leader for the Dons, demonstrating tremendous work ethic, sportsmanship, and consistency while competing at the No. 1 singles spot.

Cathedral Catholic also enjoyed strong performances in doubles play. The team of Campbell and Denton won their first two matches convincingly, defeating teams from Gompers Prep and Mira Mesa before falling to a strong Torrey Pines duo in the third round.

Meanwhile, Gerken and Li advanced to the quarterfinals after being unseeded and an at-large bid. Their tournament included a dramatic comeback victory over a Bishop’s School team after dropping the first set, before their run ended against Otay Ranch.

The strong individual and doubles performances put an exclamation point on a memorable season for the Dons, highlighted by the program’s first CIF Team Championship since 2000.
