Cathedral Catholic #1 in CA and #8 in the Nation for Athletes
Cathedral Catholic High School, led by athletic directors Colette Reid and Noah Stevens, has once again been recognized among the nation’s elite, earning the distinction of #1 High School for Athletes in California and #8 in the United States in the latest Niche rankings.
While college and professional sports often dominate the national spotlight, the foundation for athletic success is laid at the high school level. Across the country, communities gather under Friday night lights in the fall and pack gymnasiums throughout the winter, supporting programs that develop the next generation of collegiate and professional athletes. These environments not only showcase talent but also foster the discipline, resilience, and leadership required to succeed beyond high school.
The Niche rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation that draws on feedback from students and parents, as well as data from the U.S. Department of Education. Factors such as the quality of athletic programs, the number of state championships, student participation in sports, and the breadth of athletic offerings all contribute to the final rankings.
Cathedral Catholic’s placement at the top of California and among the top 10 programs nationally reflects the strength and consistency of its athletic department. With a wide range of competitive programs, a tradition of championship success, and a strong culture of participation, the Dons continue to set the standard for excellence in high school athletics.
Equally important, Cathedral Catholic’s success is rooted in its mission to develop the whole student-athlete. Guided by the pillars of Character, Faith, Knowledge, and Responsibility, the school emphasizes growth not only in competition but also in the classroom and the community. This balanced approach prepares student-athletes to excel at the next level while remaining grounded in values that extend far beyond sports.
As the national conversation continues to underscore the importance of high school athletics in shaping future opportunities, Cathedral Catholic stands as a model program—where tradition, performance, and purpose converge to create one of the country’s premier athletic environments.
