The Cathedral Catholic girls flag football team responded to a tough loss in the best possible way, knocking off the No. 1-ranked Torrey Pines Falcons on the road, 20-14, on Aug. 18.

The victory moves the Dons to 3-1 on the season and marks a major early-season statement win against one of the top programs in San Diego County.

One day after suffering a difficult loss to Ramona, the Dons bounced back with a complete team effort against Torrey Pines. The Dons made plays on both sides of the ball throughout the contest and came through with several clutch performances.

Quarterback Emma Weeks ’27 led the offense, completing 13 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Sabrina Jutronich ’28 continued to make an impact in multiple roles, carrying the ball 10 times for 41 yards while helping the Dons control the game on the ground.

Emma Valdivia ’27 delivered one of the game’s biggest plays, rushing for 48 yards and a touchdown while also adding two receptions for 24 yards.

Defensively, the Dons were relentless in key moments. Khloe Lopez ’28 led the way with 10 tackles and flag pulls, while Larisa Olivas ’27 added eight. Charlotte Castagnola ’28 also recorded eight tackles and flag pulls, and her biggest play came when she intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.

Now 3-1, the Dons will turn their attention to league play. Cathedral opens its league schedule tomorrow against Mira Mesa, looking to carry momentum from its statement victory over the county’s top-ranked team into league play.
